How to use

- Words appear instantly in US and UK styles.
- Decimals are read digit by digit (e.g. 12.5 = "twelve point five").

Practical tips
Check-writing style hyphenates compound numbers (twenty-one to ninety-nine) and this tool follows that convention. Currency mode appends the currency name and handles cents as a fraction line, which is what banks expect. Watch the magnitude names — million, billion, trillion scale fast, and one extra digit changes the words completely. Note that large-number naming differs between the short scale (English) and long scale (some European languages). Like every tool on this site, the Number To Words runs entirely in your browser: the data you enter never leaves your device, nothing is uploaded to a server, and the tool keeps working if your connection drops.
Common mistakes
Written amounts follow conventions that are easy to miss:
- Typing the amount with commas or currency symbols in number mode — enter digits only and let the tool produce the words.
- Dropping the hyphen in compound numbers: check-writing style writes forty-five, not forty five, and banks can dispute deviations.
- Skipping the read-back check — transposed digits produce words that are also wrong, so read both forms aloud.
- Expecting decimal handling in integer mode; cents belong to the currency and fraction handling, not to a decimal point.
