A chime plays when a session ends. Complete 4 work sessions to earn a long break.

How to use

  1. Press Start to begin a work session - the ring shows remaining time.
  2. When it ends, a chime plays and the tool suggests the next break automatically.
  3. Every 4 work sessions you get a longer break to recharge.
  4. Adjust work/short/long minutes and press Reset to apply; stats are saved on your device.

Use cases

1. Use case: Deep work sessions Work in 25-minute focus blocks with short breaks to keep deep work sustainable through the afternoon.

2. Use case: Exam preparation Study in pomodoros and take a long break after 4 sessions to consolidate what you learned.

Practical tips

The default cycle is 25 minutes of work followed by 5 minutes of rest, with a longer break every fourth cycle — the rhythm matters more than the exact numbers, so adjust intervals to your task rather than abandoning the method. Allow browser notifications if you work in another tab; the timer is only useful if it can interrupt you. One session per Pomodoro: if a task consistently overruns, split it into smaller tasks instead of extending the timer. Like every tool on this site, the Pomodoro Timer runs entirely in your browser: the data you enter never leaves your device, nothing is uploaded to a server, and the tool keeps working if your connection drops.

Common mistakes

The method is simple; the failures are all discipline:

  • Extending sessions past 25 minutes instead of splitting the task — the method works because sessions end.
  • Working in another tab with notifications disabled, so the timer can never actually interrupt you.
  • Skipping the 5-minute breaks; fatigue compounds and afternoon sessions collapse without them.
  • Treating every interruption as failure — note it, shorten the next session, continue.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Pomodoro Timer send my data anywhere?

No. It runs entirely in your browser — your input is processed on your device and never uploaded. Refresh the page and it still works offline.

What if I finish a task before the timer rings?
Use the remainder for review or preparation for the next task, or stop early — the ring marks time, not achievement. If tasks consistently finish early, plan bigger blocks; if they overrun, split them smaller.
Can I change the 25 and 5 minute intervals?
Yes, and you should adapt them to your work: deep creative work sometimes suits 50/10, while email triage suits shorter rounds. The rhythm — focus, break, repeat, longer rest every fourth cycle — matters more than the exact numbers.
How do I use the Pomodoro timer?
Press Start to begin a 25-minute work session (or set your own). When it ends you'll hear a chime, and the tool automatically suggests a break. After 4 work sessions it suggests a longer break. Completed pomodoros are counted and saved in your browser.
Can I change the work and break durations?
Yes. Use the three inputs below the timer to set work, short break and long break minutes, then press Reset to apply them. Changes are remembered on your device.
Is my focus history stored anywhere?
No. Session counts are stored only in your browser's local storage - nothing is uploaded, so it is fully private.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
The countdown continues in the background using elapsed time, so it stays accurate even when the tab is inactive. Sound alerts use the Web Audio API when a session ends.
